Why You Still Feel Stuck Even After Years of Therapy

You’ve done “the work”. Maybe years of it.

You have sat across from therapists, done the journaling, read the books, gone to all of the workshops.

You understand your patterns. You can trace them back to their origins. And still, something keeps showing up that you cannot seem to shift.

This is one of the most common things I hear from women who reach out to me. Not that therapy has not helped. It has. But there is a layer underneath that talking about things has not quite reached.

This is where IFS tends to change everything.

Traditional talk therapy often works with the thinking mind. We make meaning, build insight, and develop coping strategies. All of that is valuable. And at some point, insight stops being enough. The part of you that people-pleases does not need another explanation of why it does what it does. It needs to be met.

IFS gets underneath the story and into direct relationship with the parts driving your patterns. The part that stays on high alert. The part that cannot stop achieving. The part that learned to make itself small to stay loved. When those parts feel genuinely understood, something shifts that years of understanding why never quite reached.

Combined with somatic therapy, which works directly with the nervous system, this approach helps your body actually release what it has been holding.

If you are in California and have been in therapy before but feel ready for something that goes deeper, I offer online IFS sessions throughout the state. You can get started here.
