Perimenopause & Menopause

Many women are surprised by the emotional symptoms that can accompany perimenopause and menopause, including anxiety, irritability, anger and rage, mood swings, disrupted sleep, brain fog, difficulty concentrating, and simply having far less tolerance for things they managed or put up with for years.

As estrogen fluctuates, it affects neurotransmitters involved in mood, emotional regulation, sleep, and the body's response to stress. At the same time, many women are navigating demanding careers, kids, aging parents, changing relationships, and questions about what they want this next chapter of life to look like. It's rarely just one thing.

I'm grateful that physicians like Dr. Mary Claire Haver, Dr. Sharon Malone, and Dr. Kelly Casperson have brought so much attention to perimenopause and menopause and helped women better understand what's happening in their bodies. Their work has helped move experiences that were often minimized or simply endured into a much more open conversation about hormones, women's health, sexual health, and the care women deserve during this stage of life.

Therapy during perimenopause can help you understand what's happening in your mind and body while giving you practical tools to regulate your nervous system and navigate the emotional changes of this transition. It's also a place to become more discerning about where your energy goes, practice setting boundaries, have the conversations you've been avoiding, and take your own needs more seriously.

This stage of life can bring a lot to the surface. Having a place to sort through it can make a real difference. I'd be honored to support you through it.
