Why You Feel Stuck Despite Insight (and How Parts Work Helps You Change)
You understand yourself… so why are you still stuck?
If you’re here, you’ve probably done a bunch of work on yourself.
You might understand your patterns, know where your anxiety comes from, recognize your inner critic, or have had huge, real insights in therapy. And… maybe you still find yourself overthinking, second-guessing, and repeating the same patterns.
That gap can feel frustrating sometimes.
It can be experienced like:
“I know what’s going on… so why can’t I change it?”
Insight is helpful. It just is not usually enough to create change.
Because inside, there may be different parts of you with different agendas.
One part wants to speak up
One part wants to stay safe
One part wants to change
Another part shuts it down
So even when you know what to do, something in you blocks it.
What is IFS therapy?
IFS stands for Internal Family Systems.
It is a type of therapy that works with the different parts of you instead of trying to override them.
Instead of pushing through anxiety, arguing with your thoughts, or trying to “fix” yourself, you learn to understand what each part is doing, work with it directly, and create change from the inside.
These are the kinds of parts I see often:
a part that overthinks everything
a part that wants to get it right
a part that feels responsible for other people
a part that is self-critical
a part that shuts down when things feel like too much
They are genuinely trying to help you even when they are keeping you stuck.
When you work directly with these parts, things start shifting in a real way.
Clients I work with start to notice:
less reactivity
less overthinking
more clarity in decisions
more self-trust
IFS work is a good fit if you are self-aware but still stuck, thoughtful and reflective, tired of repeating the same patterns, and wanting something deeper than just talking about it.
I offer IFS therapy for clients across California.
